  • Wave protection: A bay with the islet of Ko Pu at its northern end: calm in the dry season; in the southwest monsoon waves get in, and rip currents are frequent at the southern end — which is where the surfers ride.
  • Tide impact: Moderate impact: at a strong low tide it gets shallow, but you can usually still swim; the hours around high tide are the most comfortable.
  • Getting in and seabed: Sandy, gently sloping bottom, easy to walk in barefoot — no rocks along the main stretch. Towards the northern end, by the islet of Ko Pu, there are some rocks and corals — but the snorkelling is better there.
  • Who it suits: A cosy family beach: white sand, palms, cafés along the shore; in the rainy season surfers gather at the southern end.
  • Getting to Kata Beach: Between big Karon to the north and small, secluded Kata Noi to the south — low headlands separate them. The islet of Ko Pu is visible in the water at the northern end. on the map
